Why should I have an inventory and risk survey done?

Burglaries and other mishaps involving the loss of important possessions are very harrowing experiences.
At times like these you need:

  • Assistance from your personal broker.
  • A cheque from your insurance company to cover your loss.

A recent industry survey has revealed that 95% of South Africans find themselves under-insured in the event of a claim under their household contents insurance.

The danger of being under insured lies in the fact that an insurance principle called "AVERAGE" can e applied at the time of claim, resulting in a considerably smaller amount being received by the client than the value of the loss.

Here is an example of average:

Joe Soap was insured for R200 000. He had a loss and submitted a claim totalling R70 000. An insurance assessor valued his household contents at R300 000. Instead of paying R70 000, the insurance company had the right to apply average and only pay 66.6% of the claim…. An amount of R46 666. Joe could only replace two thirds of his possessions with the amount he received from the claim.

A simple way to be accurately insured

Inventory and Risk Surveys (Pty) Ltd has had more than seven years experience in providing clients with detailed household content inventories. With our proven methods we have given our clients peace of mind by supplying them with an impartial, reasonable estimate of the replacement cost of the contents of their home.

Who carries out the survey?

Each of our agents are recruited by recommendation and trained extensively.
The survey is performed by one of these fully trained agents.
Areas: Mpumalanga, Kwa Zulu Natal, Cape & Gauteng.

How is the survey carried out?

Having decided that you want a survey done, all you have to do is email us. Our agent will call to make an appointment at a time convenient to you. Please note that the survey will only be done with you, the owner present. The agent will accompany you throughout your home and note the contents. Where necessary, agreed prices are established and others will be obtained by processing through our database. Our agents are not sworn appraisers and therefore the value placed on works of art, valuable antiques or paintings and Persian rugs is one our agent agrees with you.
Should you be unable to assist with the value, a limited amount of research will be done to establish an agreeable price. Once the survey is complete, the processing takes place at our offices and the end result is sent to your broker, with a copy to you. Included in the survey is an assessment of the level of security of your home. This could alert you to potential security problems, in many cases clients have been able to reduce premiums due to security levels.
